Breaking News!

April 26th, 2007

Despite all the odds and all the doubts going against him, Macky has lived to see his 1st birthday! It’s been a rough year for him, and the bookies in Vegas just lost a ton of money.

Macky plans to celebrate his birthday by not covering his poop in the litter box, stepping on Mowie’s head, and biting our toes through the sheets.  Pretty much, it’s a normal day for Macky.

And let us not forget that it’s Sunny’s 1st Birthday, too!  Sunny plans on celebrating his birthday by wearing a “I’m the Birthday Boy t-shirt,” staring at butterflies through the windows, and playing with his first chemisty set (he’s going to Princeton one of these days).

Happy Birthday Macintosh and Sunny!

Oh, and a special Happy Birthday goes out to the many siblings of Macky and Sunny — they might be outside cats, but we still consider them family.

If the world only had more people like this…

Macky’s Stash

April 13th, 2007

We all know Macky loves to steal things and then hide them in his secret stash (but really, it’s just under, or around, the bed). So here’s a list of things he’s stolen. As a side note, Macky reminds me a lot of Sawyer from Lost. But that’s another entry for another time. :)

1. My digital camera.

2. Plenty of socks.

3. Rita’s Custard Cone wrapping paper stuff.

4. Numerous water bottle caps.

5. Rebecca’s hair ties clips things.

6. Milk container caps.

7. Rebecca’s necklace.

The good, the bad and the Mowie.

April 12th, 2007

First off, Mac, Sunny and Mowie would like to thank The Zoo for introducing them to the Cat Blogosphere.  We’ve been super busy but we will get around to looking at all of our new friend’s blogs.  Afterall, we love nothing more than others to share litter box stories with!

And yes we know, it’s been a while since we’ve posted a picture or a video.  It’s coming.

In other news, ever since the boys were neutered a week and a half ago, Mac has been so well behaved.  Still cute and playful, just without the toe biting, smacking Mowie, wrecking the house behavior.  Sunny, however, has compensated for Macky’s goodness.  He is still running out the front door, pressing buttons on the laptop, shredding paper… all of Mac’s favorite past times.  It’s as if they switched roles…

Mowie’s happy with a hard belly rub and constant inflow of food.

We’ve been trying to tell Mac that since he’s almost a year old now he should act like a big boy.  We don’t mean we want him to lose the adorable kitten factor, we just want him to lose the annoying kitten factor.  We thought maybe he realized he’s growing up and would mature a little… but we were wrong.  Last night he was in full effect, pulling socks off of our feet, stealing things and hiding them under the bed and annoying Mowie in any way possible.

We love that cat :)

Clean paws

April 5th, 2007

We recently weaned the kittens (primarily Mac) off their water dish in the bathroom sink.  We only spent $40 on a water fountain….

Mowie seemed to be the only one actually using the fountain, as we never really see Sunny drink or eat and Macky preferred to jump in the sink and drink/play in the bowl we kept in there.  Why did we keep a bowl of water in the sink?  Because Macky likes to splash in the water bowl and make a mess.

I felt guilty for a while because Mac really enjoyed jumping on the sink and he drinks a lot of water, but the constant dirty paw marks all over the sink made us decide it was time.  Macky must drink out of the fountain.

The transition was easy, as I guess he was thirsty and decided to succumb.  Sunny however, has taken a different approach.  He drinks out of the opening at the top of the fountain where the water comes out, rather than the bowl part.  As if he didn’t want to share germs and had to get the water before it hit the pool.  The past few days I’ve noticed why he does this… he washes his paws in the bowl part.  Yes, he dips his dirty paws in the bowl then licks them.
This cat is so cute and perfectly groomed it is unbelievable.

Finally!

March 27th, 2007

Wow, it’s been a crazy long time since I wrote on here.  Time really goes fast when you’re continually picking up Macky poop, or continually making sure Macky isn’t about to break another leg.  Sorry about that all you Mac and Sunny and Mowie lovers out there!

The day has finally come.

No, Macky isn’t moving out.

Mac and Sunny are getting fixed tomorrow morning.  It’s way overdue since we’ve been putting it off for about 6 months now.  Well, not really putting it off.  More like these cats keep getting themselves in trouble so lets take them to the vet now and delay getting fixed.   But all cats have been great these last few weeks, so no more delaying!  Well, we still have approximately 12 hours until the surgery, so who knows what could happen with these cats.

I’m glad they’re getting fixed.  Hopefully the insane crying at the front door will stop.  Hopefully the running out the front door non-sense will stop, too.  I’m sure Mowie is overly excited, too.  No more kittens sniffing her butt and trying to hump her every second of the day.

I just hope they don’t lose that kitten innocence and curiousity about them.  They have such strong, yet unique, personalities that we’ve come to love and enjoy.  I know they won’t change entirely, and who knows, maybe Macky will turn into a lap cat afterall!  Or maybe Macky just won’t get hurt every other day anymore.  I’d settle for either one. :)

Wish them luck everybody!  They’re going under the knife in a few hours.  Then they’ll be back home later that evening!

Stay tuned as the drama continues…

Kitten update

March 3rd, 2007

Mac and Sunny turned ten months old this week.

:speechless:

Macky officially knows his name, whether he chooses to respond or not. Sunny responds to anything because he’s just a good cat. Mowie responds to the sound of a can of food opening.

The past month or so has been filled with frustration. Mac and Sunny desperately need to be neutered, but all of their health problems have prevented us from doing so. Every week someone is on antibiotics for something. Lately it is the wretched mouth ulcers- we are currently awaiting the results of Sunny’s bloodwork to see if they can be diagnosed with some disease. We don’t know what that means, but we were told it’s nothing bad. We also don’t know what this means for the neutering plans. We should find out this week. :crosses fingers:

In the meantime, Macky screams his head off at the front door. Why? We don’t know. Sunny had a screaming stint, but he would actually run out the door. Macky doesn’t want to leave… he’s not stupid. The real world practically ate him alive the last time he was out there. He would never leave momma and dadda. Sometimes we open the door and ask him to leave, to which he looks at us as if to say “Are you crazzzzzy?!” In the voice of the kid from Big Daddy, of course.

Sunny has not been running out the front door down the 87 flights (ok maybe its 4 flights) of stairs of the condo as much lately, but he still gets the occassional run in. And let me tell you, we can’t catch that sucker til he gets to the bottom and realizes there’s no where to go. I think he has a girlfriend downstairs because on valentine’s day he was particularly eager.

Neuter countdown ___ days.

ps- we find out if mowie’s worms are gone this week. oh, she didn’t want us to talk about that on here. sorry mowie.

Add One for Mowie!

February 14th, 2007

Yes, that’s right folks!  Mowie went to the vet this week, and not Macky!  Isn’t that a HUGE shocking event?

Mowie didn’t go for a good reason, but she’s asked us not to disclose her ailment for the entire kitty internet to see.  It seems she’s a bit embarrassed.  We made a paw-slash-pinky promise with her, so we won’t say a worm, I mean, word about it!

Mowie is on the road to recovery, though, which is great!  She was a bit shaken up by the vet visit and was incredibly mushy from it.  She got three shots, count it, t-h-r-e-e, shots!  Not for her ailment, though.  The vet recommended we vaccinate her since we have no idea of her prior shots and what not.

And as a final note, Macky’s lip is doing much better and is almost fully healed.  It’s a shame he’ll be back at the vet shortly to be fixed aka manhood cut off.

Macky Vet Visit Number Two Million and One.

February 8th, 2007

I’m beginning to think that Macky fakes his illnesses just to go to the vet and get attention.  The people at the vet LOVE Macky and flood him with attention.  And I’m talking about more attention than when Macky poops and all you hear from Rebecca and I is, “holy shit! Macky pooped again!” as the room fills up with the smell of, well, Macky poop.  They overwhelm him with compliments — how pretty handsome he is, how well he behaves (what?!), and how much of a lovable mush he is (somewhat true, atleast when he first wakes up in the morning).

The good news from the vet?  Macky isn’t dying (sorry Macky, maybe a couple more life-threatening injuries will do it) .  He apparently is prone to get these ulcers around his lips.  Nothing too serious, but still something that needs our attention.  There’s nothing that causes these ulcers — no, not even chewing on carboard boxes, Macky.

The bad news?  Macky will more than likely suffer from these ulcers for the rest of his life.  The vet stated that he’ll need cortizone shots for the rest of his life.  At this point, my stomach sinks.  Not because poor Macky will be getting shots like woah, but because I’m thinking, “fuck, I’m going to have to give him a needle every god damn day!”

Well, it turns out that the shots aren’t a monthly thing or any routine like that.  And it turns out that I won’t be administering the shots to Macky, phew!  Instead, it’s recommended that we just bring Macky in each time we spot his lips flare up again.  The vet said it might be a monthly thing, could be a yearly thing, or might just never occur ever again.

My money is on, knowing Macky, a weekly thing.

Macky doesn’t appear in pain, which is great.  The vet said that it probably just feels like a fat lip to him, but if the ulcers go uncared for, then he could encounter lots of pain.  Regardless, he’s still the most hyper and most active cat in the house.  He still jumps off of everything and anything, and still tries to climb up the shower curtains as often as possible.

So he’s been taking his antibiotics like a good little boy (I swear, he loves that stuff).  His next vet appointment should be in a month when we get his balls cut off him fixed.  But he won’t be alone, Sunny is due to be fixed as well.
