Mas Pictures!

Well, here’s an update. Finally, I know. More pictures to follow in the coming days, too.
Mowie: Not much has changed with Mowie. She still really enjoys to eat and runs to the food bowls as soon as I place them down. As of late, she’s been a bit more playful than usual. She seems to get in these hyper moods and actually instigates the kittens to pick on her. Which results in her flipping out and screaming bloody murder. My neighbors must love it.
Macky: Macky is still the same old kitten — just longer and taller. He’s grown so much, but remains a thin cat. Macky still loves to be chased (even when no one is actually chasing him) and enjoys playing fetch from time to time. He’s currently enjoying his new bed — something we weren’t expecting since he loves sleeping in akward positions and locations. He has matured greatly, but he still has many of his kitten habits like biting toes in the middle of the night. Worst thing ever.
Sunny: Sunny has grown up big time. He’s a real cat these days — sleeps 90% of the time, eats 5% of the time, and chases his brother and sister 5% of the time. He loves the couch more than ever and you can ALWAYS find him sleeping in the cracks of the cushion. He’s still a big time mush and enjoys cuddle time with momma and hard belly rubs by dada.
We apologize to all of Mac, Sunny and Mowie’s fans who have been anxiously awaiting an update. We’re bad parents.
Mac should be fully healed right now, he just has to make his final vet visit. He’s happy, crazy and playful. Did I mention crazy? He’s recently developed this long and lean body, almost like a greyhound. For a while he had a fat belly full of kitten chow, but now he looks like he never eats. Well he doesn’t eat much compared to Sunny and Mowie who live for dinner time, he’s too busy playing to care.
Sunny’s been busy sleeping. He can sleep almost as much as Mike. In a recent battle, Sunny won the sleep off by just an hour or so. He sleeps all day, but he’s up most of the night playing on his giant scratching post, which he loves. He also decided to boycott kitten food all together, forcing us to feed him adult food. Speaking of that scratching post….
Mac’s favorite new game (with a broken leg) is to climb to the top of the 8 foot post (see below) and immediately jump onto the couch. Then he climbs up and does it all over again, like a child going down a slide.
Mowie has been pretty happy. She spends her days tanning in the sun with her belly up in the air. When she’s not lounging, she’s playing mostly with Mac, since they both suffer from ADHD. She left her role of security guard breaking up Mac and Sunny’s wrestling matches and now instigates or starts her own. She recently began kissing Mac on his forehead when she sees him, which is the cutest thing ever. Sunny sleeps through 90% of this…
Until next time!
I now have picture proof that all three cats actually love eachother. I mean, why else would they be sleeping all a foot apart from one another?
Yes we haven’t posted on here in a while…that’s because Mac’s days are relatively the same now. He’s been doing great, possibly too well. He’s not supposed to play for 7-10 days, but by day 4, Mac was getting antsy. He has nothing to play with in his makeshift room (Mike’s closet) and nothing to climb on, yet he managed to find trouble. He chases his shadow up the wall, jumps on us when we go in to visit him, climbs on my head and throws his body on the floor as if he doesn’t have a broken leg or stitches. Let’s just hope everything will heal properly. Trying to keep a 5 month old kitten resting for 7-10 days just isn’t realistic.
The procedure that Mac had is what makes me nervous about him not healing properly. His femur was, well snapped off from his hip bone. Rather than placing screws to hold it in place, they just shaved down the bone at the break to make it smooth and his body will heal itself. It will never grow back as solid bone, but it will fill in with cartilage. I’m thinking if he moves too much during the time he’s not supposed to, his cartilage won’t fill in properly. But realistically, I would think they would have to consider the fact that he is a cat and is going to do what he wants to do when deciding upon his surgery. I cannot wait until his stitches come out!! 8 days…
In other family news, I’ve had my hands full with all these cats! Sunny and Mowie basically get along, until he eats her food, spills her water, or messes her litter box and she gets pissed at him. Still, her getting pissed now is about 10 notches down from what it used to be. She usually just chases him the length of the hall, then stares at him for a bit while he completely ignores her and goes on with his playing. Since I’m here all the time now to keep an eye on maniac Macky, they have both gotten used to constant attention and sleeping with me on the couch. Usually they take turns but yesterday Sunny wasn’t feeling great. Mowie was laying with me and Sunny jumped on my lap and she actually didn’t get mad. As a peace offering Sunny gently placed a paw on her…she looked suspicious, as I would be too, but she tolerated it. Then in typical ADD kitten fashion, Sunny was distracted and ran off to play.
I’ve been taking tons of pictures with Mike’s camera, but I keep forgetting to ask him where the wire is to put them on the computer…Just check back soon!
Mac’s surgery was today and it went well! They found another small fracture in his hip, along with the break in the top of his femur. He may be coming home late tomorrow, if not, Thursday! I’m so excited.
Although he’ll be home, he won’t be able to play with Sunny for 7-10 days. I don’t know how we’ll keep them apart, they are twins after all and they’re probably dying to see each other.
Something went well today, Sunny and Mowie hung around each other for the entire day. She had her moments of chasing him, but she wasn’t nervous, tense, hissing or growling. Sunny didn’t even care about her antics, he seemed to be doing well with ignoring her and going on with his daily kitten activities. Mowie’s slightly uptight (ha!) even when I threw her favorite mouse to her she jumped as if it was alive. She’s coming around though, and with good timing.
Free Macky!
hopefully tomorrow :D
So Mowie has made herself at home at mike’s, although she and Sunny still have their issues. Mowie seems to be terrified of the kittens, actually throwing up after their first interaction. She doesn’t run or hide from them though, she just sits on the side in a little ball. The kittens on the other hand just want to play with Mowie. All Mac is interested in is the fact that theres a second litter box. He’ll run up to Mowie with his tail wagging as if to say “Hiii play with me??” Then she’ll growl and he’ll cry and run back to Mike or me. Sunny is more cat like. He wants to investigate Mowie and see what shes all about. He’s persistant in constantly looking for her to stare her down or sniff her butt. Mowie isn’t really a fan of his antics. So they’ve growled at each other a few times. It’s only been 4 days, so they’re doing pretty well.
Mowie is loving the indoor life. She just couldn’t stay in the garage anymore, she was bored, lonely, and tried to casually walk out a few times. But she’s a good listener and came right back in when I yelled at her. Not that Mowie ever needs to be yelled at…
We think she’s pretty young, she is very playful and runs laps around the living room. Her favorite hobbies are laying in the sun and biting toy mice. Sometimes at the end of the day, she likes to sleep on the ottoman, but only when permission is given. You basically have to beg this cat to sit on the couch with you. She doesn’t sit on furniture unless asked. Poor kitty probably got yelled at for sitting on the furniture :( As the week goes on, she is getting more comfortable and building confidence. At first she would follow me and cry if I left. But now shes gotten used to Mike and even chose to sleep on his lap rather than mine the other night. We’ll post pictures soon.
So the time came when Mac and Sunny’s mom was looking to have more babies, if you know what I mean. Dad starting hanging arond again so we knew it was time to do something. A million phone calls later, I got some help from this nice lady at SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program), who was able to squeeze Suzy (Mac and Sunny’s mom) in at the SPCA of Monmouth County’s spay/neuter clinic. Although we love Mac and Sunny, as well as their 3 adorable, homeless siblings, which can be seen below ;), we definitely did not need anymore kittens running around this place.
Yesterday was the big day, so I dropped Suzy off at the SPCA in Eatontown, which forced me to get up at 6am. She was on standby, meaning she didn’t have an appointment, but if they had extra time they would perform surgery. Luckily she was spayed yesterday. She stayed there overnight and this morning, once again early as hell, I had to go pick her up. I got the general directions on how to care for her and found out she received her shots. She also got a cool tattoo in her ear so that if she’s ever picked up by animal control, they will know she was spayed and leave her alone. All that for $60, what a great program and friendly people, thank you SPCA :D
During their time without their mommy, the 3 kittens looked sad. When I checked them out in the garage last night they all stared at me, with sad kitten eyes, as if to say “Hey mean lady, where did you take our mommy!” I tried to explain it was for her own good, but I think they’re too young to understand. Suzy arrived home today and naive me was thinking she’d let me pet her since she’d be sore and doped up. Boy was I wrong. I opened the cat carrier and she ran like hell and then got very mad that the garage was closed up so that she couldn’t leave. Sorry Suzy, the vet said you can’t roam free for 4 days. I must add that Suzy is what they call feral, or a wild cat. I think the term is insulting, especially the first time we tried to bring her to the vet and she said “That cat is feral and I can’t handle her!” Psssh, you’re feral, lady! The SPCA said she was a good girl, but they deal with feral cats everyday. Even my super friendly cats Butchie and Rosie act like they’re getting murdered everytime they go to the vet for a check up, props to Suzy for being tough and not crying at all in the car.
When mommy got home, the kittens immediately starting playing. They were so happy to see their mom, although she just had major surgery. It seems like Mac and Sunny do the same thing. When we’re not around, they just sleep under the bed. The minute we come home it’s like kitten playtime. I guess they just like feeling safe like someone is watching them, whether it is biological or adoptive parents :)
