Kitten emergency

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

Last night, Mac and Sunny thought it would be a good idea to play on the speakers. You know, those 3 foot high, tall skinny speakers that are kind of wobbly. Apparently one of them fell on Macky’s leg and they’re pretty heavy. He hobbled under the bed and cried and bit Mike when he tried to look at it.

Today we brought him to Dr. Anita and he screamed when she touched his leg. She said it was really swollen, but luckily no breaks! He got an anti-inflamatory shot and was told not to jump anywhere for a while, which we thought would be hard to stop…

We got home from the vet and Mac was not his usual self. He’s had sad puppy eyes all day and hasn’t moved much. His eyes actually look a little teary as if he was crying! Poor guy is a little shakey when he sleeps too, maybe from pain or the shot he was given. Sunny, however, seems to have noticed none of this. Without his best friend, he has a ton of energy and no where to expend it. The result? He has chased Mac, attacked Mac, attacked us, ate some newspaper, ate a paper bag…Mac became smart and decided he was going to sleep in the kitty carrier, where he was safe from Sunny. So now we have 3 cats who need to be separated…well hopefully Sunny will calm down and play doctor to his brother by his bedtime.

Macintosh accepts cards, flowers, balloons and money.

More Mowie!

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

The vet called only 4 hours after we left to let us know that Mowie tested negative for feline leukemia! The only slight abnormality in her blood work was that her blood cell count was slightly high, so they want to put her on some antibiotics which should fix that. In the meantime, she ate an entire can of cat food in a matter of minutes. Poor baby was starving!

She’s such a nice cat, I don’t see how anyone could do this to her :(

Sunny’s Results

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Sunny’s results came back in today — he was tested for feline lukemia last week. Everything came out fine and both kitties will live long healthy lives! :D

Oh, and their poop was tested, too, for something I cannot remember for the life of me. Parasites? Shrug. Regardless, their poop is fine. Well, poop is never fine, but you know what I mean. Besides, these kitties poop more in a day than I do in a week.

Bad vet

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Mac and Sunny survived a visit to the vet today, second for Sunny, third for Mac. Sunny weighed in at 4.5 lbs, while Macky trailed behind (barely!) at 4.25 lbs. The lil guy has come a long way since he weighed less than a half a pound- he’s catching up to Sunny. Getting them to the vet was not as easy as it once was. We thought we could pick them up and go as usual, but they put up a fight. Mac escaped once and hid under the bed. When we actually got him in the box, he brought himself to headbutt the carrier, as if he’s an animal or something! Cats are so smart, they’ve already learned that the carrier = bad. I thought we had a good year before they figured that out…

We asked the vet about Macky’s slightly bowed legs and she said he should be fine, just like a bow-legged person. His joints were moving normally and he does everything that Sunny does, which was a relief to hear. Mike wondered how we would get them back in the carrier from the vet, pssh inexperienced cat owner! Just like their aunts and uncles, the boys walked right back in after they were examined and laid down. They pounded their little paws and chanted “Bring us home! Bring us home!” Ok, maybe the second part was exaggerated a little…. They knew we were home as soon as we walked in and happily left the box. After some treats and belly rubs, we called it even.

PS- pictures coming soon, we promise.

Guess What!

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Macintosh’s blood results came in today. He officially tested NEGATIVE for feline leukemia and aids! So I believe it’s safe to assume that Sunny is free of that stinky virus, too.

The virus typically runs in stray cats — which Mac and Sunny just happen to be. I was previously nervous that they were infected, but it was such a relief hearing that they’re perfectly healthy.

Either way, with the virus or not, I’m going to give them the best home and life possible.
