Kitty news

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I know there has been a lot about mowie on here lately, but don’t worry, we haven’t been neglecting mac and sunny!  They’re still being kittens, getting fat bellys and chasing toys around.  They are very understanding that mommy has been caring for a stray, after all, mac was standing in mowie’s paws just about 3 months ago.

We’ve been so caught up in mowie madness that we forgot to post that mac and sunny’s 4 month birthday was on Sunday!  Happy Birthday boys!

Mowie’s antibiotics seem to be working wonders, as her red spots and scabs are completely gone and her hair is filling in nicely!  Her fur no longer feels like a brillo pad, as my mom said, and her coat is nice and soft.  Its hard to give her attention in my garage because we don’t have to pass through there to get in the house.  Its also a garage so its not like we can casually hang out in there.  Today i sat on her bed and she cuddled right into my lap and fell asleep while purring.  What a perfect cat.  However, she needs to be in a house where theres people walking around and such.  Hopefully she will soon :/

Rags to Riches

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Mowie is doing great. All of her fleas (and whatever else was living off that poor baby) are gone and her skin and fur are recovering nicely! I bought her a brush and gave her some special attention with it. She loved it so much, it must have felt so good on her skin. It’s only been 2 days for her without fleas and she’s come so long already! Who knew fleas could do so much damage.

Mowie’s other main problem, which left her in poor condition when she was outside, is that she is declawed. I can’t stress enough how important cat’s nails are to them, for survival, protection and emotionally. Mowie must have gone days without food because for the past two days, she’s cleared an entire can of cat food in a matter of minutes, plus a full bowl of hard food. I think she’s not sure when she’ll be without food again so she’s stocking up for winter or something. A few minutes ago I went into the garage to visit her, which she gets super excited about. I gave her a mouse and ball yesterday, to keep her busy. I never saw her play with it when I was in there because she just follows me around, but tonight she tried to play with the mouse, but the poor kitty has no claws! I’m used to watching mac and sunny kick my arm and toss toy mice like its nothing. Poor Mowie, I don’t even know if I’m making her uncomfortable by holding her because she has no nails :(

Declawing is also illegal in many countries!  Click for more about declawing..

Mowie started her amoxicillin yesterday and she takes it like a champ. I’ve never seen a cat swallow medicine so easily. This cat is a saint.

However, Mowie may have an excellent home lined up. Cross your fingers and let’s hope it goes through! She can finally be the little princess she deserves to be :)

Who could abandon this face!

More Mowie!

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

The vet called only 4 hours after we left to let us know that Mowie tested negative for feline leukemia! The only slight abnormality in her blood work was that her blood cell count was slightly high, so they want to put her on some antibiotics which should fix that. In the meantime, she ate an entire can of cat food in a matter of minutes. Poor baby was starving!

She’s such a nice cat, I don’t see how anyone could do this to her :(

Mowie’s story

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

I think I should start my own adoption clinic through macandsunny.com.

A couple of days ago, a cat wandered not into our yard, but onto our doormat. She cried and cried and just wanted to get in. She had some hair loss, which we assumed was the worst. She is super friendly, I mean such a nice cat.

After sleeping on our doormat and crying outside, I felt bad for her and went to give her attention. I noticed she is missing hair all under her belly and base of her tail, plus she had some rash looking thing under her arm. I had this terrible feeling she had cancer. After playing with her paws I noticed she was declawed. Declawed!! Who lets a sweet, friendly, declawed cat outside to die! The people up the street moved out a few days ago, I think they just left her here. Bastards.

So today my dad and I brought her to the Sayrebook vet. Mowzer was so good in the car and when we got there, she was happy to be at the vet! She rubbed up against everyone and everything, even let the vet rub her belly on the table. Everyone was in love. Turns out, as of right now, Mowie doesn’t have any signs of leukemia. Her hair loss and rash is an allergic reaction to fleas. If she hadn’t cried and slept on our doormat for 2 days, she wouldn’t have survived outside with no nails. What is wrong with people.

The moral of this story is that Mowzer needs a home! She is declawed and spayed and the nicest cat you’d ever meet. She loves attention and definitely deserves a good home. After all that she’s been through, she deserves a mansion and grapes fed to her.

Interested? :)

Party Cats

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Let me tell you, Sunny was the life of the party on Monday night. He was roaming around from person to person — “play?” “pettt meee?” “make me go in circles!” are just some of his catch phrases of the night. At one point, Sunny decided to sleep in the middle of the living room. He was so entirely comfortable with everyone. Sunny certainly made us proud.

Macky was a bit different, but it was ok. He opted to stay in the bed room most of the night, but he never hid or anything like that. Macky played the role of sleepy cat on the bed. Through conversation with Macky, I found out that during the night, he didn’t want to seek attention. And instead, he wanted the attention to come to him. Sure enough, it certainly did! Many people made special bedroom visits to Macky. And he, too, made us very proud of him.

At one point in the conversation, I saw the mature cat come out when he said, “dada, when you home, I get all the attention, and..and, um.. last night, I wanted Sunny to feel special because he deserves it.”

Baby Mac

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I’ve had this picture of Mac on my phone forever and Mike just figured out that he can email it :)

It was taken 3 days after we found him, while sitting on my lap.

Sunny’s Results

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Sunny’s results came back in today — he was tested for feline lukemia last week. Everything came out fine and both kitties will live long healthy lives! :D

Oh, and their poop was tested, too, for something I cannot remember for the life of me. Parasites? Shrug. Regardless, their poop is fine. Well, poop is never fine, but you know what I mean. Besides, these kitties poop more in a day than I do in a week.

Macintosh, So Cute

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

It’s a pleasure to say that Macintosh has won the “Cute-Kitten-For-a-Day” award*. Just check out some of the pictures below — he was so mushy today and so photogenic. Enjoy.

**Disclaimer** There is no such award — I do not play favorites. Sunny, sure enough, will soon have his own entry filled with cute pictures.
